Paladins are a highly debated class, in fact one of THE most debated classes in the game. Many people are divided over the fact of whether or not a Paladin is a worthwhile class, and how one should specialize a Paladin, should they play one. Most people who have gotten a Paladin to at least level 30, either 1-hand specialized or 2-hand specialized, believe that the Paladin is not only worthwhile, but one of the best tank classes in the game. Thanks to their heavy plate armor, they do not take much damage from monsters or enemies. They also have constitution as a main stat, so it increases considerably over time, helping the Paladin's health. In PvE combat, the less you get hit, the better off you are. That is why most Paladins who plan on doing alot of heavy PvE work at higher levels, or just want to defend their realm mates, choose 1-handed weaponry as their specialization. However, in RvR, the main strategy is to do the most damage the most quickly. Most higher tier 2-handed weapons attack relatively quickly, and do considerable damage to their opponent. A well specialized 2-handed Paladin can hit some yellow-con mobs for over 300 damage with no style, whereas a well specialized 1-handed Paladin can only hit for a maximum of about 150 damage with a style, and even that is somewhat rare. Overall, I feel that Paladins are an effective class in both PvE and RvR combat. They have many advantages and disadvantages over Armsmen, for example: their chant line allows them to twist chants that can heal them, increase weapon damage, decrease enemy damage, and heal endurance all at once, whereas Armsmen dont have a single one of these abilities. Another advantage of the Paladin is their class specific realm ability, the well known Faith Healing spell. This is an instant self and group heal, and allows the Paladin to take on many tough foes and come out the victor, where they normally would have been killed. Paladins also tend to enjoy the Mastery of Pain realm ability (Prerequisite Augmented Dexterity 2). This RA increases your chance of landing a critical hit by 5% per level. When my Paladin lands a critical hit on a monster that is yellow-con, he can hit for arount 250-300 + 250-300 damage with his Great Scimitar. Thats anywhere between 500 and 600 damage total, which is a tremendously large amount of damage. Both 2-handed and 1-handed Paladins are, overall, very able classes, contrary to what many people might think.
